Snowballing

Many publications, both online and in print, include a bibliography at the end. Here, the author gives an overview of the literature used or makes recommendations for more interesting literature on the subject. This way, you can find other useful books or articles.

If you use an article from an online database, you can often click through to the publication referred to via a literature reference. This method always takes you back in time, because the literature you find in the bibliography of a publication is always older than the publication itself.
